let-them-not-weep:

I want small children to think I am either a goddess or a faerie but I want grown men to fear me

Take it from someone who has a life-long interest in folklore and mythology:

Grown men who do not fear either goddesses or the faerie end up very, very, dead.

Real goths go “All it takes to be goth is to care about goth music and the values of it; the subculture will always have a heavy focus on people who are outcasts, ostracized or marginalized by society, drawn to darker or more taboo subjects, or artists themselves who want to create work that might be more experimental or risky” and then fake weird poser goths who want in on a trend hear that and go “smh I’m tired of stagnant goth gatekeepers trying to police who can be goth -___-” and then turn around and make mean-spirited jokes about old people being “too old to be goth XD” as if the literal founders of the subculture aren’t in their 50s-60s and joke about people who are “too poor to be goth XD” while flaunting their pre-ripped jeans and pre-spiked jacket and expensive makeup products and equate being goth to being a conventionally attractive young person who can afford to spend hundreds of dollars on trendy fashion from high end companies profiting off of an aesthetic that was created initially 2 be antiestablishment, accessible to poor people, and recyclable to reduce waste (DIY and thrifting). But we’re the evil elitist gatekeepers making goth inaccessible because you should know who Andrew Eldritch and Peter Murphy are before calling yourself a “goth gf.”
